Valley First partners with the Okanagan Regional Library to deliver expert financial advice
November 14, 2012

Penticton, B.C. – Penticton-based credit union Valley First, is partnering with the Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) in Kelowna to deliver financial education to library users.

The experts from Valley First will be holding a free lunch-and-learn seminar about registered education savings plans (RESP) on Nov. 20. The session will give library users and the community an easy way to access important financial information.

“We are excited to be working with Valley First,” says Ashley Machum, youth services librarian. “We already provide our clients with a wealth of information through our extensive library collection, however, there is no substitute for hearing from the experts themselves. For many, the library is the centre of the community. We are looking forward to giving them advice and information where they can most easily access it.”

For Valley First, partnering with the ORL means partnering with a trusted and well-respected community organization—an organization based on knowledge sharing and inclusion.

“Walking into a financial institution can be daunting for some,” says Valley First’s Dustin Read. “By partnering with the ORL, Valley First can remove some of the barriers to obtaining sound financial information. It’s all part of our commitment to keeping banking simple.

“A topic like RESPs can be especially confusing as it is often unclear who can open an account. Our seminar will be invaluable to parents, soon-to-be parents, grandparents, or anyone with special kids in their lives.”

The RESP seminar, which begins at 11:45 a.m. on Nov. 20, is free and open to anyone interested in attending. Valley First and the ORL will be providing light refreshments, information packages and handing out giveaways during the event.
