Lake Country Food Bank receives $10,000 from Valley First

October 6, 2015

Penticton, B.C.—As part of its commitment to tackling hunger, Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union today presented the Lake Country Food Bank with $10,000 to help support its ongoing programming.

The donation, made by Valley First President Paulette Rennie, came during Valley First’s annual Make a Difference Days campaign – a week-long community support blitz. Rennie was on hand at the Lake Country Seniors Activity Centre during a volunteer event to cook and serve a hot lunch to the residents of the facility.

“Tackling hunger is a priority for us,” says Rennie. “Food banks are such a vital part of our community. To extend our support to Lake Country enables us to help even more British Columbians in need and continue to make a real difference in the fight against hunger.”

The opportunity to support the Lake Country Food Bank came from Valley First’s ongoing connections with community partners and local and provincial elected officials. Food banks are widely recognized for the important service they provide; a service that can only be delivered through an collaborative approach that includes individuals, the business community and food bank advocates.

In 2010, Valley First launched the Feed the Valley program to raise food and funds for food banks across the Okanagan, Similkameen and Thompson valleys. The organization has helped raise more than $950,000 and collected more than 60,000 pounds of food in a little over five years.
