First West Credit Union issues call for board nominations

January 5, 2015

Penticton, B.C.—First West Credit Union is now accepting nominations from candidates interested in standing for election to the board of directors in its Envision Financial and Valley First regions. Nominations will not be solicited in First West’s Island Savings Region, as no directors’ terms expire in that region in 2015.

The First West board leads and oversees the credit union by setting strategic direction, working closely with management to maximize financial performance, representing the interests of members, establishing the credit union’s risk appetite and upholding First West’s vision and values.

For 2015, the board is seeking highly skilled, qualified candidates to fill four available positions – two in the Envision Financial Region and two in the Valley First Region. Potential candidates must be existing members in good standing of the credit union in either the Envision Financial Region or Valley First Region. Additionally, potential candidates should possess:

  • A broad range of business knowledge and experience
  • Critical thinking abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Interest and passion for the credit union and its regions
  • Commitment to invest the required time, energy and expertise

In 2015, the board is particularly interested in candidates who have the following competencies:

  • Financial accounting and audit
  • Leadership (previous/current CEO or senior executive)
  • General insurance knowledge

Members interested in seeking nomination should be aware that the board will be conducting a downsizing process in late 2015. The downsizing is necessary because of the appointment of three directors to the board when Island Savings merged with First West on Jan. 1, 2015. First West’s rules permit such appointments to accommodate mergers, but also require the board to return to a total of 12 directors within a defined period. It is important candidates are aware of this, because there is a risk that they could be elected, then leave the board a few months later.

Please download the package for more information on the nomination process. Nominees are asked to indicate their intention to stand for election by Jan. 19, 2015, after which they will have until 5 p.m. on Feb. 4, 2015 to complete and submit a nomination package. For more information, please email
