Susan Ewanick named president of Valley First and Enderby & District Financial

June 7, 2016

Penticton, B.C.—First West Credit Union today shared Susan Ewanick has been appointed as president of its Valley First and Enderby & District Financial divisions.

As regional president, Ewanick will lead a team of close to 300 First West employees across the Valley First region which extends from Kamloops to Princeton and throughout the Okanagan. This leadership change follows on the retirement announcement of Paulette Rennie earlier this month.

Ewanick—who re-joined First West on May 31— previously served at Valley First from 2013-2014 as vice-president of banking and insurance. She returns to First West with 25 years of experience in progressively senior leadership roles in the financial services industry. Most recently, Ewanick was part of HSBC’s National Executive Team and led the commercial banking team in Western Canada.

“Susan is a natural leader with a proven ability to develop engaged, high-performing teams,” says First West Credit Union’s Chief Operating Officer Shelley Besse. “In addition to her extensive knowledge and work experience in the financial services sector, Susan has continually demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing members with exceptional experiences and service that help simplify their lives. We’re thrilled she’s re-joined our team.”

Her diverse career has given Ewanick comprehensive knowledge of wealth management, retail banking, business and commercial banking. Ewanick’s banking experience spans Canada and has covered many different sized markets – important factors when leading a team spread across some of the smallest and largest communities in the Southwest Interior. She also holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics degree and has also completed her Lean greenbelt training.

“It’s great to be back,” says Ewanick. “The teams at Valley First and Enderby & District Financial have made such a positive and lasting impact on the communities and the people they serve. The level of commitment to both member service and community building is inspiring and I’m looking forward to jumping back in to continue to strengthen and develop these areas.”

Ewanick is also a well-respected leader in the community. She has held many volunteer leadership roles including serving on the board of directors for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and the board of governors for Vancouver Community College. She also mentors the next generation of future leaders as a volunteer with Junior Achievement.
