Valley First

Valley First Directed Studies Scholarship Program

Valley First and Thompson Rivers University are embarking on a new partnership designed to address capacity and knowledge gaps that affect nonprofit agencies—this unique project provides real business experience for students and adds to their classroom learning, while community partners gain valuable business tools and strategies. An innovative approach to hands-on learning, the program matches a local nonprofit organization with a fourth year TRU student-led team who help partner agencies by applying market research and problem solving skills to address a current operational challenge. Throughout this fall, students will be on the ground working with the Kamloops Food Bank. Students will form custom action plans and recommendations that will help the food bank excel in its mission.

To support this learning opportunity for TRU students, Valley First has committed $10,000 in directed studies scholarships. These funds, held by the Thompson Rivers University Foundation, will be awarded to participating students who successfully complete the academic requirements and outcomes of the program.
