Farm Bag Fundraiser

Supporting Local Families

Raising awareness about the issue of hunger and healthy food choices is an important role that Valley First and our community-based program, Feed the Valley, plays in our community. That’s why we're excited to partner with the Farm Bag Fundraiser, supporting local families with access to healthy, nutritious and fresh produce.

The Farm Bag Fundraiser is an innovative program aimed at schools and community-based organizations that enables fundraising for community and sustainable projects, through the sale of locally-grown produce.

The Farm Bag Program has three main goals:

  1. Promote healthy eating by bringing affordable food to families
  2. Help schools and community organizations
  3. Support local farmers with fair wages and an increased local market

The 2015-16 Fundraiser program had another successful season bringing quality fresh local produce to families and schools in the Okanagan-Similkameen region. Over 500 participants (including some new schools) took part October through February.

The Farm Bag Fundraiser program is currently offered in the South & Central Okanagan. Register your group or family to participate in the 2016-17 Farm Bag Fundraiser.

The idea is simple—customers pay in advance to collect a bag of fresh produce from a designated location once a month. The sale of each bag nets a profit for the fundraising body, with the intention that it be used towards a community project. Farmers who supply to the program benefit from advance and flexible sales in addition to receiving a higher than average return for their produce. The five-month season, which runs from September - January, means that the program is able to source locally grown, long-storing produce with preference given to organic suppliers.
