How It Works

Here's How It Works

  1. First you'll need to have online banking access, plus the latest version of our Mobile Banking App for your iPhone®, iPad®, or Android™ device.
  2. Once you've got the Mobile App installed on your iPhone®, iPad®, or Android™ device login and tap the "Deposit" option
  3. Next, you'll use your phone's camera to take a picture of the front and the back of the cheque
  4. Then select the account you'd like to deposit your cheque to
  5. Enter the amount of your cheque
  6. Tap Deposit Cheque
  7. Write “Deposited via Mobile Banking” and the date onto the back of the cheque and keep it for 90 days in case we need to see it

And voila, deposit complete—it's that simple!

You'll be able to see your deposit in your account immediately but the amount of your cheque won't be included in your available balance. When you make any cheque deposit, we'll normally put a "hold" on these funds until the cheque has been fully processed. If you need access to the money you are depositing right away, please visit your nearest Valley First branch.

Tips for taking a picture of your cheque

  • You'll need good lighting
  • You'll need a flat, dark surface free of other papers to place your cheque on
  • You'll need to make sure your cheque is not folded or bent
  • You'll need to remove any cheque stub attached to the cheque before you take the picture
  • You'll need to take the picture so that your cheque fills the area between the white brackets displayed on the screen

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is Deposit Anywhere™?
Based on Mobile Remote Data Capture (RDC) technology, Deposit Anywhere is a new feature on our mobile app that allows you to conveniently, quickly and securely deposit Canadian cheques on your iPhone®, iPad®, or Android™ device.

  2. Is depositing cheques with a mobile phone safe?
Yes. Deposit Anywhere™ is safe and secure. This service is not a third-party app and does not require a separate download. By including it within the mobile banking app, your mobile banking transactions are protected and confidential. Cheque images are not stored on your device. Public and free Wi-Fi connections should not be used for banking transactions; for enhanced security we recommend that you use your carrier’s internet connection.

  3. Are there any fees for using Deposit Anywhere?
No. There are no fees for using this service—we're big fans of "simple" and "free"!

  4. What types of cheques can I deposit?
You can deposit personal and/or business cheques payable in Canadian dollars drawn on any Canadian financial institution. The cheque needs to be payable to, and endorsed by, the account holder.

  5. Do I need to mail in the cheque(s) afterwards?
No. We don't need the cheque to complete the deposit but from time to time we may need a record of it so we'd ask that you keep it for 90 days.

  6. What happens if I enter the wrong amount by mistake?
