COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP

Creating capacity and bettering lives in our communities.

We believe in supporting local non-profit and charitable organizations that serve the most vulnerable in our communities. Through Lead Well, our social vision, we encourage our employees to volunteer with local organizations in the social sector to help our communities thrive.

TOGETHER WE CAN END CANCER

We are proud to share a three-year partnership with the BC Cancer Foundation with a total investment of $300,000.

We know this is near and dear to our employees, members, and communities when 1 in 2 British Columbians are impacted by cancer—this alarming statistic tells us the need is immense and the time to act is now.

Our partnership will involve employee engagement and activation for several of BCCF's initiatives throughout the year as well as dedicated funds going towards the greatest areas of need across the province to help advance research and innovative care.

HEART ICON

First West Foundation, the credit union's companion charity, has been working to create resilient and resourceful communities since 1996.

COMMUNITY CREW

We have paused the Community Crew program due to Covid-19 restrictions. Our youth ambassadors will be out in the community as soon as it is safe to do so.

The Valley First Community Crew is a youth ambassador program designed to develop leadership skills and provide an opportunity for students to act as role models while giving back to our local communities. Throughout the year, our team of university students attend your favourite local community events, and offer free activities such as face painting, playing giant jenga, giving out fun items, and more. In addition to this, during the summer, each Crew member has a unique volunteer placement with one of our non-profit partners.

For more information on the program, please contact Meaghan Caruana, Sr Marketing & Community Investment Specialist at mcaruana@firstwestcu.ca or 250-488-5447.
